Strand beach can get very busy in the South Africa summer months and is a popular stretch of sand for tourists to the Helderberg region located quite close to the Somerset Mall. Accommodation is available on the beachfront in the form of apartments, hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses with magnificent views of the ocean and a hop across the road to be on the sand. Lifeguards are on patrol here during the busy festive season and this is a safe place for families and children to be able to swim in the sea under supervision.
Surfing and Kite boarding at the Strand beach are popular water sports and waves down by the pipe can get epic on the right day. On the smaller days the surf is ideal for beginners wishing to learn at the local surf school. The windier days see the kite boarders in action as they skim across the waves up and down this beautiful stretch of coastline. The sea temperature is warm enough in the summer to be able to swim or go surfing in a costume or board shorts although if there is a strong wind there will be a chill and it is a good idea to wear a wetsuit if you have one.
Many tourists flock to the area in December and activities and events are always happening to keep holiday goers entertained. Volleyball competitions, powerboat racing, touch rugby, soccer matches and mini concerts from local artists and hosted by local radio stations are amongst the various activities and things to do during the summer. Fishing is popular from the sand and many people jog or walk this stretch of sand every morning and evening as part of their daily exercise routines. If you are coming to the Helderberg region for a holiday or even for a day trip then be sure to check out the Strand beach via the road that takes you right alongside it.
